Leaps and Bounds Pre-K

Welcome to Bright Beginnings Leaps and Bounds!!

As educators, our goal is to prepare your child with the tools they need for educational success in Kindergarten. Each day will be filled with learning opportunities both structured and unstructured, small group, whole group, and individual. Lessons incorporated will be in the form of hands-on activities, because children learn best by doing. They will have opportunities also to learn through games, music, stories, and creative ways where they can utilize their own gifts and abilities. Lessons will also be designed in the form of differentiated instruction for those children who learn differently so that they can learn materials at their level and pace. The curriculum will be designed to coincide with the NYS Common Core Standards. There will be a copy of the Common Core Standards posted on the information board for your convenience, highlighting the standards used for the pre-kindergarten grade level. I will attach the pre-k pre-primer sight word list that we will be using this year.

Our curriculum includes enrichment programs that will introduce your child to many topics they will experience in Kindergarten, which includes:

STEM AND STEAM Club – STEM is the acronym for science, technology, engineering and math and STEAM is the acronym for science, technology, engineering, art and math. The STEM and STEAM club will give the children the opportunities to explore topics that relate to these attributes through many experiments. The class will learn the 4’C as it relates to STEM and STREAM, which includes critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. The class will use these for 4’C as they experiment with STEM and STEAM activities. Your child will have the opportunity to color outside the lines, which means they will learn how to take their thinking skill to a much higher level. They will also use STEM and STEAM in literacy. Based on each theme taught this year, your child will be exposed to a wide range of age-appropriate books. STEM and STEAM activities will correlate from the literacy experience learned from the story book. Your child will be given the opportunity to use their creativity engaging in STEM and STEAM activities on their own.

ART – In this class your child will have the opportunity to use various art mediums as they engage in activities that coincide with each theme. They will also be exposed to literary art where they will do art projects based on stories that coincide with each theme. They will be able to engage in multicultural art that involves different art projects that coincide with different cultures around the world. They will also have opportunities to be creative in doing their art.

MUSIC – In this class your child will be exposed to different musical games which include musical chair, pass the ball, beanbag games, etc. Your child will become acquainted with different instruments where they will be able to explore by playing them to a variety of different music. Your child will have the opportunity to learn basic notes where they will learn the concepts of beats. They will be able to read these notes and clap out their beats. The class will also have the opportunity to explore different genres of music around the world.

COMPUTER CLASS – In this class the children will utilize ABC Mouse and other pre-k programs to reinforce learning of the curriculum.

PHYSICAL FITNESS – In this class your child will be exposed to yoga, Zumba, and other movement activities to promote the importance of being physically fit. Your child will be exposed to a wide range of music including multicultural music from around the world.
